Cheddar Gorge 10k

22nd May 201610k off-road.
Venue: Start/finish Strawberry Fields (above Cheddar Gorge).
Travelling time: 20mins from hotel to Cheddar village.
Weather: Sun/cloud,heavy showers
Comments: Another visit to Cheddar, but not such good weather this year.
We stayed 2 nights at Wookey Hole Inn to celebrate my 70th birthday.
No parking at race start this time, so drove to Cheddar early Sunday to get in main car park - £3.50 for 4 hours.

My first challenge was the ½ hour walk to the race start, up a very steep rocky track from the village. Alec went off on his own walk.
The race route was the same as last time, but much harder due to a 15-minute deluge just after the start, making it extremely muddy and slippery.
Mostly along the top edge of the gorge on rocky uneven terrain and you couldn't see much of the gorge itself. A major challenge at about 7k was the steps up a very steep hill.

I got a voucher for winning my age-group (though there wasn't much competition, and no fv70 category).

The winner did it in 43m44s.

An enjoyable event, and well organised.
The day also included a 5k and a 300m fun-run around the start area.
Age-groups: up to mv60, fv60
Results: Rosemarie 1h:15m:13s (1st fv60; 43rd of 72 ladies)
159 finishers

Travelling time: 5 minutes from home by car
Weather: Sunny, very warm
Comments: Low-key Rotary club fun-run. Mostly NFR and novices.

More on road than I would prefer - 1st couple of miles ok, then sciatica slowed me up.
Walked up the short hills to try to stretch hamstrings out a bit.
Also included a 5k and childrens run.
Age-groups: none
Results: Rosemarie 1h:4m:56s (17th of 39 ladies)
70 finishers

Durberville Dash 10k

24th Jul 201610k MT.
Venue: Wool (near Wareham), Dorset
Travelling time: about 45mins, left home 9am
Weather: Cloudy warm
Comments: Based in sports pavillion (hot showers).
Too much on tarmac (not good for my sciatica), wore road shoes. Undulating rather than hilly.
Nice winding path through woods but too narrow to overtake timid roadies and very dry and dusty.
Very good value £11(+£2eod), tech finishers T-shirt included - purple this year.
Delay waiting for results, then they missed my fv70 time and had to go and ask for my prize.
Only 1 other NFR runner.
Alec drove me there, stopped at pub on the way home, Shoulder of Mutton (near Bear Cross).
Age-groups: Every 5 years, gents and ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 1h:03m:43s - 1st fv70 (of 2); trophy, buff and bottle of wine!
247 of 294 finishers.

Undulating, mainly down for first half, mainly up coming back, with long hill to finish.
